5 tips in writing engaging content

Online content creation is a competitive industry. There are approximately 7 million blog posts that get published online every day and not all of them get centre stage. Whether it’s selling a product/service, or marketing your brand online, creating engaging content is the key to keeping people’s interest.

How do you know if your content is engaging? To put it simply, it should bring three results: your content makes you an authority in your niche, it increases awareness to your business, and it pulls in a good amount of online traffic. Here are 5 tips on how to make these results happen:

  1. Make it about them

Write for your audience. You should always think about what the reader both wants and needs out of the content. Aside from catering to your readers, you should also know your target audience. Everyone goes online for information on just about anything under the sun so if you don’t have a target audience, your content will get lost in an ocean of blog posts. It will not get the attention it needs. Knowing what you should write and who you should write it for are important aspects of engaging content.

  1. Keep it short and sweet

Too much metaphors and unnecessary information will increase your word count but they won’t help with the quality of your content. Make sure your readers will get what they want out of the content right away since a lengthy but empty content is just overwhelming. Additionally, it doesn’t help your brand or business as well.

  1. Good headings will make readers stay

Headings are not enough for your audience to read your content. While every heading catches the eye of readers right away, interesting ones will actually keep them on your website. Headings not only help you organise your talking points but it also makes a difference on your bounce rates.

  1. Keywords are your friends

Keywords are like guides that tell you what people are looking for. You should know the trends and current topics of your niche before you create content. However, it’s also important to use these keywords organically in a content. For instance, writing about pasta while including a keyword on construction is not a great start to an engaging content.

  1. Start and end with a bang

Keywords and headings will get the attention of your audience but you need them to engage with your content. Your goal is to encourage your readers to do what you want them to do whether it’s buying products, or browsing more on your website. Call to action statements and internal linkings are tools that will help your readers.
